Liberty a social contract

To be able to do what u like is liberty. To be able to like what u do is happiness. Liberty can be classified into individual and social liberty. Individual liberty is a personal right and self respecting man will not forego this even for his safety. Any one who would sacrifice his individual liberty for the sake of getting safety deserves neither liberty nor liberty. Our constitution offers individual liberty to man through freedom of speech, freedom of following his religion, freedom of expression etc. In the use of such freedom, man has to ensure that he does not interfere in the freedom of others. Liberty is a social contract meaning that every man has an obligation and commitment towards society. A man who reflects his own individual liberty respect others right also. So the social contract becomes all the more necessary. Liberty cannot be used as a license to hurt others. The father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi who got us freedom deeply believed in individual liberty. Individual liberty is very much a personal affair, but social liberty is a social contract and the art of fine living is the ability to disown between the two.

This is a very thought provoking post. Freedom and liberty are such abstract concepts.

  2. The interesting part of liberty is that there exists a freedom of speech and thought. Could we ever put a restrain to that? Can we change the way people think, especially those who aim at hindering the freedom of others? Can to the freedom to think any which way we want, even if we desire animal instincts be put an end? It's difficult but not impossible.

Thanks for visiting my blog, yours is great! Freedom like everything else is relative.
